Case Author

Thomas Burch M.D.

I am a board certified anesthesiologist and a board certified echocardiographer.  I completed an anesthesiology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), a cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at Wake Forest and a pediatric cardiac fellowship at Children's Hospital Boston.

I have performed adult and pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesiology at 6 major medical centers. I have worked in a variety of cardiac operating rooms including several major academic centers, a veteran's administration hospital, a private practice hospital, and a major academic pediatric cardiac center.

I have won the teacher of the year award 4 times at 3 different academic medical centers.

I have written a few echocardiographic publications including a board review book (Conquer the PTE), which is no longer in print.  I have lectured at many local and national meetings (Society of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Harvard Review Course) and I have helped many private practice physicians, residents and fellows pass the PTEeXAM and the oral anesthesia boards. I have also lectured at private practice hospitals and I founded a "TEE lecture series" at the University of Alabama, and Wake Forest University. I was also an American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) oral board examiner (not currently an oral board examiner).
